Peer Mentorship Program
Give Hope To Someone Who Needs It
Become A Mentor
Connection Through Shared Experience
A peer mentor is someone who has lived with a brain injury and wants to support others. They connect with people at any stage of their brain injury journey, offering understanding and encouragement to those who may feel scared, confused, or alone.
By becoming a mentor, you can give hope to someone who needs it — and you may also feel more purpose and connection in your own life.
Who Makes A Good Mentor?
You may be ready to be a mentor if:
- You have lived through a brain injury
- You have moved forward in your recovery
- You want to support someone else who has experienced a brain injury
- You are a good listener
- You understand your own feelings and limits
- You can keep healthy boundaries
- You can meet regularly with a mentee
How Mentors Support Others
As a mentor, you may:
-
Listen to a mentee’s successes and frustrations along their healing journey
-
Relate to common changes after brain injury, including frustration, focus and attention challenges, and sensitivity to noise or light
-
Reassure someone that stress after a brain injury is normal
-
Remind them that recovery takes time and they are not alone
-
Help them find meaning and purpose again
You don’t need to have all the answers. Your story and understanding are what matter most.
What This Program Is Not
Being a mentor is not:
-
Counseling or therapy
-
Crisis help
-
Medical or legal advice
-
Case management
-
Resource Facilitation
Your role is to support a mentee through shared experience and listening.
Why People Choose To Mentor
Many mentors say the program helps them:
• Feel more purpose in their own life
• Stay connected to others
• See how far they have come
• Make a real difference for someone else
