What You Don’t See:
Stories of Brain Injury
Behind every brain injury is a story. Through What You Don’t See, we’re sharing the experiences of Nebraskans impacted by brain injury, from the challenges others may not see to the hope they’ve found along the way. This year, new voices join the stories already shared, offering another glimpse into what life with brain injury can look like and the hope YOU help make possible.
At the 2025 Nebraska Brain Injury Conference, we partnered with A Peace of My Mind, a multimedia storytelling project by artist John Noltner, to capture and honor these stories. You can learn more about the project and view the full gallery HERE.
According to the Nebraska TBI registry, each year an estimated 13,850 Nebraskans are hospitalized due to a traumatic brain injury. Your generosity helps the Brain Injury Association of Nebraska provide free, individualized support to people and families navigating life after brain injury. From connecting individuals with essential resources to educating communities and advocating for better care, your support helps us reach Nebraskans who need us.
2026’s annual campaign highlights the faces and stories of individuals with brain injuries, caregivers, and advocates from communities across Nebraska. As you read these stories, we invite you to consider making a gift to help us continue this work. Together, we can create a brighter future for Nebraskans affected by brain injury.
Because Of You, Hope Is Visible
No amount is too small to make a difference.
-
- $75 provides one hour of intake and support for an individual or family.
- $150 helps train parents, athletes, coaches, and educators to recognize and respond to concussions.
- $225 connects individuals to essential local, state, and federal services and resources.
The Traveling Exhibit
What began at the 2025 Nebraska Brain Injury Conference has grown into a traveling exhibit reaching Nebraskans in communities across the state.
From the Capitol to hospitals, peer support spaces, and community organizations, each stop has introduced the exhibit to a different audience while creating new opportunities for conversations about brain injury.
"The check-ins are well timed. When information is provided, it is precise and generous. I feel remembered but not overwhelmed."
