Each year at the Nebraska Brain Injury Conference, we take time to recognize individuals whose compassion, dedication, and leadership strengthen the brain injury community across our state. These award recipients represent the very best of what this community stands for—showing up, listening, and walking alongside individuals and families on their journey.
This year, we were honored to recognize four individuals whose work has made a lasting difference.
The Above and Beyond Award was presented to Jessica Mosley and Brenda Rodriguez, whose dedication to supporting survivors—particularly through implementing brain injury screening and connecting individuals to resources—has expanded access to care and support for some of Nebraska’s most vulnerable populations.
The Spirit of Nebraska Award was awarded to Dr. Travis Groft, whose decades of expertise and willingness to guide and support others has been an invaluable resource to both professionals and families navigating complex brain injury cases.
Finally, the Everyday Hero Award was presented to Penny Costello, whose lived experience, advocacy, and commitment to supporting others has brought hope, connection, and understanding to countless individuals across our community.
Together, these recipients remind us that meaningful change happens because people care enough to take action. We are deeply grateful for their contributions and proud to recognize their impact.
The Brain Injury Association of Nebraska not only offers information and referral, but case management to find the resources and make positive changes to live a more fulfilling future with better coping strategies as well as memory aids on board. If you or someone you know has lasting effects from a brain injury, please contact us and allow us to offer our services, to find a new normal on this journey where ‘once you’ve seen a brain injury, you’ve seen one brain injury.
